The University of Tasmania’s signage holds a special place in my heart and represents my student life perspective. Launceston’s Inveresk campus sign in lights delightfully transfixed me, the first time I saw it, after its 2018 installation. The dramatic illumination of the darkness and its reflection in the North Esk River continues to mesmerise me. The sign represents my deep pride, of being part of a respected, innovative institution, steeped in 129 years of history. Plus, it embodies the feeling of belonging to a special community, where my learning is nurtured. On a deeper level, the light symbolises the emergence from darkness, through my gaining of knowledge at university. Also, reflections are a large part of student life. I am forever reflecting on everything from coursework to the future and the bigger picture of life.
